These are the original live classes that eventually became the best-selling book ‘Seeing G-d’. Rabbi Aaron takes us on an experiential journey through the ten sefirot, opening our eyes to new ways of being in the world.
Seeing G-d 1 – Introduction
Rabbi Aaron begins the journey by explaining what an experiential understanding of G-d is, according to the Torah and Kabbalah. Then we unload our G-d baggage, and take off into learning how to develop wholistic sight.
Seeing G-d 2 –The Sefirot: Divine Qualities
After a brief review of the first class, we start to explore the meaning and reality of these ten ‘attributes’ of G-d from a practical point of view, and begin to understand how the One undivided reality becomes manifest in the finite world.
Seeing G-d 3 – Malchut: Seeing with Eyes of Kingdom
The ‘lowest’ sefira of Malchut means kingdom and is the first quality that a person must become aware of and embody in order to become a vessel for the blessings of life. We can see it manifest in the world as organization, design, order, system, lawfulness, and theme. From here, it is clear that life is definitely not random.
Seeing G-d 4 – Yesod: Embodying Lifeforce
Yesod means foundation, and the energy of life pours into this sefira. It is the synergy of all other spiritual qualities, which puts life in order, order in life, and creates peace. Rabbi Aaron shows us the power of tzaddik and of doing tzedaka as they emerge from Yesod.
Seeing G-d 5 – Wonder and Reason
Pausing before the next set of sefirot, Rabbi Aaron explains the difference between wonder and reason and how they help us experience the world. He helps us to get in touch with how our pre-conceived notions can block our ability to see. How do we know when to look through the lens of reason or the lens of wonder?
Seeing G-d 6 – Netzach and Hod: Grandeur, Power, Thankfulness
The sefirot of Netzach and Hod work together. Through them, we can see grandeur, majesty, and power in nature and history with eyes of wonder. Rabbi Aaron also illuminates how the Prophets drew their prophecies through Netzach and Hod.
Seeing G-d 7 – Tiferet: Truth and Realness
The sefira of Tiferet is also known as the clear lens, which was the level of Moshe’s prophecy. Here, Rabbi Aaron helps us to see the truth, realness, compassion and harmony in the world.
Seeing G-d 8 – Chesed and Gevurah: Justice and Kindness
Through the glasses of Gevurah there is a sense of justice and meaning, while through Chesed the world and life is seen as the complete gift that it is. Rabbi Aaron explores the sefirot through the personalities of our forefathers Yitzchak and Avraham.
Seeing G-d 9 – Keter, Chochma, Bina: Will, Wisdom, Understanding
In this last class of the series, Rabbi Aaron looks at the ‘top’ three sefirot. Keter, the life force, is seeing the will in the universe. Wisdom is the innovative, unpredicted force of intuition. Bina is pulling something apart and understanding it. Then the Ten Divine Attributes are reviewed and shown how they all work together.
